USS Biddle was deployed to the Middle East in September 1990 as a part of Operation Desert Shield, the place she joined the Saratoga battle group on the Red Sea. During the primary 5 months of the year, Biddle operated along the east coast and in the West Indies. During the following three months, Biddle operated out of her home port both within the Virginia Capes working area and Mitolyn Benefits in the West Indies. Back within the Mediterranean on four September, she resumed regular sixth Fleet operations-multiship workouts and port visits.

On 26 May, the warship put to sea for NATO Exercise "United Effort/ Ocean Safari 83." At the conclusion of that exercise, she commenced a series of port visits alternated with operations within the Baltic Sea. Upon leaving the shipyard on 25 August, the warship commenced a 3-month missile development check and evaluation program. Following the removal of check equipment in mid-December, the guided missile destroyer spent the remainder of the month preparing for upcoming fleet workouts. Following a tender availability at Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the guided-missile destroyer returned to the gunline on 22 September. During this period, her engineers and technicians busied themselves sustaining and enhancing the warship's complicated digital and fireplace-control systems, a task abetted by a 3-week tender availability in early February. The duty unit cruised off North Vietnam near Hon Me and Hon Matt Islands, looking for enemy waterborne logistics craft and firing on designated targets ashore.
